Silver Spring, Maryland CNN —The farmers market in this suburb of Washington, DC, was a ripe crowd for Angela Alsobrooks, who’s locked in an increasingly contentious Senate Democratic primary on Tuesday. “I would really like to see a Black woman in the Senate. If elected in November, Alsobrooks, the executive of Prince George’s County, could become only the third Black woman ever elected to the Senate. (The one Black woman currently serving — California’s Laphonza Butler — was appointed and isn’t running to stay beyond this year.) “Electing women is not just good for Maryland,” Alsobrooks told supporters assembled outside her campaign office.

Judith Butler Thinks You’re Overreacting
  + stars: | 2024-03-24 | by ( Jessica Bennett | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
The first thing I did when reading Judith Butler’s new book, “Who’s Afraid of Gender?”, was to look up the word “phantasm,” which appears 41 times in the introduction alone. (It means illusion; the “phantasm of gender,” a threat rooted in fear and fantasy.) In a single word, “gender” holds the power to seemingly drive people mad with fear. Butler’s latest comes more than three decades after their first and most famous book, “Gender Trouble,” brought the idea of “gender as performance” into the mainstream. As it turns out, Butler — who has written 15 books since — never intended to return to the subject, even as a culture war raged.

If someone tells you, "come up with a great idea," your mind probably goes blank. But it doesn't have to be, says psychologist Allison Butler — you just need to know what steps to follow. Whether you want to impress your boss, invent something or start a successful business, Butler recommends a methodology called "design thinking" that she says can help anyone come up with great ideas. "The idea is that it seems like a checklist: Watch people, learn from them, craft insights, brainstorm great ideas [and] start to prototype," says Butler. Embracing critical feedback can help you do more than improve your ideas, too.

As her husband watched her his heart yearned towards her and he caressed her fondly, saying, “My own wife, do not take these things too bitterly to heart. Her husband noticed, and filled with pity now, Hector stroked her gently, trying to reassure her, repeating her name: “Andromache, dear one, why so desperate? No man alive has ever escaped it,neither brave man nor coward, I tell you —it’s born with us the day that we are born. And his loving wife went home, turning, glancingback again and again and weeping live warm tears. Delivery drivers expercienced a boom during the pandemic, but many say that luck has run out. But without being able to see exactly how much they'll be tipped, drivers say it's a gamble. Since the height of online ordering in the thick of the pandemic, delivery drivers have slowly seen their once-lucrative profits fade away. Now, drivers say they still have a hard time turning a profit unless the tip is worth it. According to the New York Times, Uber and DoorDash drivers figure they're paid about $3.50 per order, plus $1 per mile they have to drive.
